Future Directions for Dialysis

In this article, Prof. Raymond Vanholder, EKHA President, highlights the several drawbacks of dialysis, despite being life-saving for a growing number of kidney patients. Given the important carbon footprint of dialysis, the article presents a number of environment-friendly alternatives that are currently being explored. These proposed options may provide sustainable solutions to advance kidney care, and are exemplary of how out-of-the-box thinking is needed to disrupt the status quo in treatment of kidney diseases.
